Hello, my name is Simone and I am a PhD candidate. #PHEW!!! I had to get that out!!
I am not an avid blogger, but I thought hey, what the heck, let me use this space to document and reflect on my PhD journey!! This is one of my hardest undertakings to date. I always thought that I would start a PhD at the age of 40 (give or take), but at 29, I do feel a bit daunted. Yes yes yes I know, there are many who have done theirs at a much younger age, but I never envisaged that this would be occupying my space for the next 3-5 years. Not only have I registered at a totally new, and very reputable institution, but I am also doing a study in and emerging field in education. More specifically, emerging technologies in higher education.
I have been dabbling in innovative teaching practices for a while, but I never guessed that I would be doing research on it! Who woulda thunk!!! So to further entice you, my proposed (working) title is: Towards a Social-Constructivist Game Based Learning model: A case of using emerging technologies in sport science education. Recently I have introduced Wiki's and Blogs in my classroom, but will be adding another dimension to my work....GAMING!!!!
My proposal is due in Jan 2013 and believe me, it have not been an easy road conceptualizing this project. I am currently writing my final (I hope) draft of the proposal so that I can submit in Jan. I am looking forward to the feedback I will get from the higher degrees committee. I will be posting my experiences of this, as well as the other phases of the project as time goes by!!!
